Another year turns in the on-going saga of me... with a birthday at the beginning of March I can reflect on the past year but also use it as a stepping stone to the new...spring awaits in all its glory!!!
I love al the seasons for many reasons, but spring is special...the rebirth of the golden bough, of Mother Earth stretching her sinews, migrant birds arriving back from their winter homes, plants bursting through the warming soil... bees looking for early flowers; amphibians searching out their pond... Spring is special...
Of course the blooming of nature heralds new photo opportunities and a chance to capture those images long planned during the dark winter day. I have several projects lined up and just can't wait to get out and about with my Nikons...
To make me more enthusiastic the weather during January has been pretty rubbish... occasional days provided some solace, but overall dull, grey featureless skies were the norm. Plus it has been cold; so maybe my picture selection will be limited... I continue to post to post to my Flickr page and I have made some sales from my Dreamstime page. February usually sees the first real early flowers...so here is a small selection...
Snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis)

Now, when I was out and about I came across the following...
Unsympathetic hedge management...
I really don't like this kind of countryside management...it looks awful, it weakens the plants as the damage caused by the flail increases the places pathogens can take hold and it ultimately results in a gappy hedge that is not stock-proof. Land owners then have to spend money on fences. However, we live in austere times and to employ a team of hedge layers would be expensive. I would like to see central government fund proper hedge management around the country; I know it won't happen, weapons and expense accounts are far more important.
One of the best things about living so close to the Ouse Washes is that I get to see loads of wildfowl and waders everyday when I take my boy to and from school. Early morning light and feeding birds...each day is a delight at the moment...

Above is my favourite picture from February - I just like the light and the painterly affect.
Finally, an interesting job that came in this month was to copy and repair an old photograph. Sometimes these are easy, sometimes tricky. It just takes patience and a decent editing tablet... I hope the client is happy with the result...
